Responsive Design is a Must
Now more than ever it is urgent to have a responsive mobile design. There are more mobile searches on Google than desktop. Make sure sites are optimized for mobile.
Google continues to update its search engine algorithms. In fact, Google came out with a mobile – first indexing. This means that Google will rank its search listings based on the mobile version of content. If you just have a desktop version, it could negatively impact the rankings of that site. A site with mobile experience can potentially receive a rankings boost even for searchers on a desktop.
This changes the game significantly for search engine optimizers and webmasters. Prior to the Google update, Google was using the desktop version of sites to feed the algorithm. Google as well as other search engines have been desktop-first. This means that the search engines indexed and ranked websites regardless of how it was designed for desktop, tablet, or mobile devices.
According to Google, mobile-first indexing means that Googlebot will now use the mobile version of your site for indexing and ranking, to better help our (primarily mobile) users find what they are looking for. Google’s crawling, indexing, and ranking systems have historically used the desktop version of your site’s content, which can cause issues for mobile searchers when the desktop version differs from the mobile version. Our analysis indicates that the mobile and desktop versions of your site are comparable.
Mobile first will create an opportunity for brands to provide a better experience for their audience. This may result in brands being rewarded with higher rankings. To improve the user experience, ensure that your content is responsive. Furthermore, if you have just a desktop website make sure that you develop a mobile friendly website. Therefore, make sure that you have a mobile responsive site to be indexed in Google.
